It’s going to be a boy for Jill Duggar and her husband, Derrick Dillard! The fourth child of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar made the gender announcement to the media on Tuesday. The 19 Kids and Counting stars waited until their wedding night to “do the deed” and managed to conceive a child almost immediately after their wedding.
Jill and Derrick have been very outspoken with their pregnancy, creating the Instagram hashtag #babydilly and keeping their fans up-to-date on all of the baby news. Jill said that three of her siblings were in the exam room when the baby’s gender was revealed. (Nothing in this family is done alone. I’m surprised Jim Bob wasn’t sitting outside the bedroom door when the baby was conceived!)
“Oh yes, there was some screaming in the room,” Jill, who is 18 weeks along, told People. “I thought all along we were having a girl. Everyone made their guesses.”
Jill said she thinks Baby Dilly will be tall like his father, because “he stretched out his legs full length” during the sonogram. Derrick, 25, added that he was happy with the news.
“As a new dad, to have a firstborn son to be our first born child and be a leader to his siblings, it’s very special,” he said. (Apparently girls can’t be leaders in this family…)
Jill said while they do plan to follow in her parent’s footsteps by having a lot of children, they do not plan to follow the “J” name trend their parents created. All of Jill’s 18 siblings have names that start with “J” and all three of her brother Josh’s children have names that start with the letter “M.”
Jill said while they won’t be doing the letter theme, they may do some other theme, like family names. Here’s to hoping they name their son Jim Bob, Jr., which, while funny, may not be completely far off. If the couple plans to use “family names,” Jill just might end up birthing a Jim Bob. After all, both her father and grandfather have that name, and Jim Bob did not give any of his own sons his name.
Other possible names the couple may use if they are choosing family names include Garrett (which was the name of Michelle’s father, as well as her brother), Hardin (which was Michelle’s mother’s maiden name), Rick (the name of Derick’s late father), George (which was Derick’s mother’s maiden name), or Norman, which was Derick’s grandfather’s name.

Has anyone ever asked them what they will do if one of their children is not heterosexual?
It’s crazy to me to think of the huge family gatherings they’re gonna have after the Duggar children give birth to the grandkids. I could imagine the boys having smaller families because they seem adventurous and maybe want more out of life then raising kids. Not that raising kids isn’t an adventure but…ya know.
Is Caleb the Duggars child who died because of the birth control? I think that would be really weird if Jill named her son after a dead sibling that she never knew. I like the idea of family names though, and no way on another Jim Bob.
Good god. Babies don’t die from birth control. Michelle had an early miscarriage and they blamed it on birth control because some religious groups choose to deny science and make up their own rationale for the unexplained. Don’t spread ignorance by saying things like “the baby who died because of birth control”. Miscarriages are very common and sad- there’s no need to blame them on the woman taking birth control. Talk about blaming the victim.
I’m a nurse, and yes, birth control can cause miscarriges. Most people think that the birth control pill keeps the woman from ovulating, and that’s what the drug companies tell you to sell their product. When in reality the birth control pill doesn’t stop a woman from ovulating. It prevents a fertilized embryo from implanting in the side of the uterus. Most women don’t even know they have even been pregnant because the by the time it’s time for their cycle the embryo hasn’t implanted and is expelled as a normal period.
It is possible to get pregnant on the birth control pill. Most of those babies are carried to term and are healthy children. However, some of those babies are lost within the first 8-12 weeks of pregnancy. Which is exactly what happened to Michelle and JimBob’s little “Caleb”.
Until I became a nurse six years ago, I thought the same thing about birth control that everyone believes…that it keeps you from ovulating. It pains me to know that I could have been pregnant and lost my baby because of my decision to use birth control.
This has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Duggar’s religion. There are no “religious groups” who choose to deny science. It’s up to each couple to do their homework on different forms of birth control. I take it VERY offensive that you used the Lord’s name in vain and that you said “some religious groups choose to deny science and make up their own rationale for the unexplained.” That couldn’t be farther from the truth! It’s through science that we know God exsists!!
The Duggars are Evangelical Christians just like I am. There are many “religions” that consists of Evangelical Christians, but none of them are against using any type of birth control. The Catholic Church is the only church that preaches against any form of birth control. However, all of these religions believe that life begins at conception and are against abortions.
Please do your homework really well before bashing someone else on the loss of their child.
thank you for saying that yes it does happen
My vote is for Rick. I also think they’ll have a “Caleb” and “Jubilee” and any other family member who passed away.
I’m more eager to see if there are any rebel Duggars that don’t want 10+ kids. Any hope still out there for Joy-Anna?
Who was Caleb? Must have missed that one.
Caleb was the son Michelle miscarried in between Josh and the twins (before she decided on the whole J thing. I think she just decided it was a boy, I don’t think gender could even be determined) if I remember correctly she miscarried super early and blamed it on her being on birth control at one point in life, and vowed from then on that God would be her birth control and decide how many babies she should have.
If she’s so adamant on using family names, I think she would do “honor” names first, then start naming them after live members if they run out.
