Gwen Stefani has quickly become a fan favorite as a coach on the current season of The Voice. It was recently revealed that Gwen will not return to the show for Season 8, and that original coach Christina Aguilera will be taking back the big red throne, but it appears that Gwen is enjoying her moment on the show while it lasts.
In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his LA radio program on Monday, Gwen talked about how happy she is that she took the job on ‘The Voice,’ despite all of the reservations she had about it going in.
“You know what, Christina, I just want to say—girl, what’s up? First of all, you were right, it’s so fun,” Gwen said on-air. “Thank you so much for letting me fill in…we have so much fun.”
While everything seems to have turned out great for Gwen, the No Doubt singer said she was scared about taking the role as coach—and putting her mug on television every week.
“I kind of didn’t really know what I was getting myself into!” she told Ryan of taking the job. “I think I still had baby brain or something when I said ‘yes’ [to ‘The Voice’]. Once it started getting closer, I started going back and watching all the old ‘Voice’ ones and I started freaking out! I was like, ‘Oh my God, Adam and Blake are so amazing, and Shakira’s so great and Christina’s so great. What am I going to do on that show?’”
“I’m not a TV person!” Gwen declared.
However, when Gwen arrived on set this summer to tape the Blind Auditions, she said she instantly felt better about her new gig, thanks to the jolly vibe on set.
“Everyone is so funny,” she said. “I have to give myself smile massages afterward because I was laughing so hard! I literally had facial pain!”
Although she had worked with Pharrell in the past, Gwen said she was still really nervous to be around him on a daily basis.
“I get butterflies around him!” she said. “I love him. He’s so talented and he has such a magical thing about him. I was really anxious about that.”
Around the 4 minute mark of the interview video posted below, Gwen does what is basically the cutest thing ever. Despite the fact that she is a woman who has sold millions of records worldwide, launched several successful clothing lines and had her songs played on the radio more times than anyone can count, she was still totally excited to be doing a radio interview. She proved this by asking Ryan if she could give a shoutout to her sons, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo, as well as her husband Gavin Rossdale and her parents.
“Kingston James…what’s up…it’s Mom!” she adorably squealed.
*Full disclosure: The Ashley has been obsessed with No Doubt since 1994 (because she, like Gwen, is an Orange County girl) and will take any chance she can get to write about Gwen or No Doubt.
