‘Sister Wives’ Stars in Tax Debt! Kody Brown & Wives Reportedly Owe Thousands in Taxes For New Arizona Properties

“No Kody, I don’t think the tax office will accept hair styling tips as a form of payment…”

Sister Wives star Kody Brown is in hot water again…and this time it’s not just with his many wives!

Fans of the TLC show know that Kody and his wives Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn recently moved from Las Vegas to Flagstaff, Arizona. Three of the wives are currently living in rental homes, while Christine recently purchased a home. Many fans have wondered on social media how Kody and the gang could afford such a move, considering the Browns hadn’t yet unloaded all four of their Vegas homes.

It appears that Kody & Co. may, indeed, be having some financially problems.

According to Radar Online, Kody and the Sister Wives are in tax debt in their new home state of Arizona.

The Coconino County Treasurer’s Office confirmed to Radar that Kody, Robyn and Christine failed to pay taxes in the amount of $2,063.70 on the parcel of land the Browns bought last year. The amount—which was due in December—now sits at $2146, thanks to interest. Kody, Janelle and Meri also owe $2070 on the second parcel of land they own.

“Are you SURE we have to pay taxes on all of those things? That doesn’t sound right to me!”

Christine is not currently in tax debt for the home she owns with Kody. Radar reports that she and Kody have until May 1 to pay $1418 in taxes, or they will be delinquent.

So why all of this debt? It could be because the Browns have had such a difficult time selling their houses in Las Vegas. Robyn’s home on the Browns’ Vegas cul-de-sac sold in February for $603,000, but the other three Brown family homes have been a nightmare to unload.

Desperate to sell the houses, Kody even resorted to making “guest appearances” at the open houses of some of the homes. Janelle was originally the listing agent for some of the homes, but did not have much luck and eventually turned the job over to another realtor.

Janelle’s home finally sold earlier this month, but not before the family had to lower the price by $75,000. The home, complete with the bathtub Maddie gave birth in, was originally listed for $649,000. After lowering the price twice, it finally sold in April for $574,900.

Christine thought she had sold her house earlier this month, but the deal fell through. The house, which has ample space to practice family flash mobs and other embarrassing skits, is currently still on the market. Meri’s home—– notable for its wet bar(!)— is also still for sale. The family has lowered the price of her home by $25,000 already but has not been able to unload it yet.

“Is there some sort of multi-wife tax discount I can apply for? Asking for a friend…”

The Brown family is currently paying the mortgage on the two unsold Vegas homes, the rent on the three temporary houses in Arizona, and the mortgage on Christine’s house in Arizona. This is on top of what they owe for the parcels of land that they will be building their new houses on. (Kody better hope he can get some more TLC wedding specials to cover the cost of all of this expansion!)

So far, none of the wives or Kody have spoken out on social media about their debt.

  1. This family is the WORST at finances. It makes the most sense for them to just buy one big home, but the wives are insisting on 4 separate houses (that they obviously can’t afford). They hardly have any kids left in the house, soon it’ll just be 2 for Robyn, 1 for Christine and 1 for Jenelle but I’m sure they are going to build huge dream houses they can’t afford again. Hopefully they all get jobs soon and take some financial classes….

    1. Meri doesn’t even need a house, she’s one person. She definitely can move in with another of the families and actually help out with the kids. Or move permanently to her B&B since she’s divorced and it’s obvious really doesn’t have a place in the family anymore. As much as the others can’t afford separate homes, I really doubt they can afford construction on a brand new multi-family home when they can’t even pay the taxes on thier undeveloped land. They honestly pick the worst option in any financial situation.

  2. The tax bill isn’t even crazy high, but these geniuses thought it would be a great idea to have a bunch of children and buy bunch of houses, none of which they can afford. This is what the wives get for following Kody, who has never had a good idea in his entire life.

… Gee it’s almost like someone with a brain might have advised against this ridiculous idea *Kody* had to uproot his entire family to move to.. Arizona? But Robyn’s kid went to college there so…? Ladies, leave his burnt out manbun butt, sue his a$$ for child support and let him live his crap life with Robyn.

  4. I live in Las Vegas (not originally from there) and I absolutely agree about the education. It’s garbage, I believe I read an article about how Nevada ranks 49th in education.. Based on statewide test scores.
Although, there are many great private schools out here, but with how tight the Brown’s budget is, Kody wouldn’t shell out money for that.

  5. Maybe the underperforming schools, which these homes are zoned for, are a reason for sluggish sales. They’re poorly rated across the board (elem – high) and Janelle even stated the schools as a reason for moving. Homes of that size usually have children living in them. School rankings can really attract/deter homeownership. The Browns probably didn’t bother to research this before they purchased.

    1. I live in LV so I know the area and if they bought homes a few miles to the south then the schools are quite a bit better and resale would be easier. But they probably opted for that part of town since it is more private. And it’s worth noting the schools in Flagstaff aren’t much better so I’m not buying that reason for the move (not that I’ve ever watched the show).
