NFL star Travis Kelce is adding “game show host” to his growing résumé– which already includes NFL superstar and boyfriend of Taylor Swift.
Travis has been named the host of Prime Video’s new game show, Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?–- a twist on the game show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, which premiered in 2007 with host Jeff Foxworthy.
In a statement to Extra, Travis said he’s looking forward to bringing a new format of the OG show to viewers.
“I grew up loving game shows and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one with ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?’” Travis stated. “The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen will definitely be entertaining.
“I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up,” he added.
On the new show, viewers will watch as adult contestants turn to celebrities to help with 11 elementary school-level questions. The stars will be on-hand to offer their assistance and contestants will even be given the opportunity to “cheat” off of them in some cases. The game will end with a $100,000 6th-grade level question, on which the contestant will be allowed to consult with a star before answering.
Travis is taking on the latest installment of the ‘Are You Smarter Than’ franchise on the heels of John Cena, who hosted ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?’ when the series was revived on Nickelodeon in 2019.
“Travis has proven to be an incredible talent on and off the field, and we appreciate the trust he has placed in us with his first foray into television,” Lauren Anderson of Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement. “His natural, comedic dynamic with our panelists and guests, coupled with some exciting new twists, will keep our global customers coming back week after week.”
While ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?’ will be the first game show Travis has hosted, it won’t be his first gig in the unscripted TV world. Reality TV fans may recall Travis starring in the 2016 dating show, Catching Kelce, which aired on E!
A premiere date for ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?’ has yet to be announced.
