Former Unexpected star Ethan Ybarra was reportedly arrested last month after attempting to steal a tip jar from a marijuana dispensary.
Fans of ‘Unexpected’ may remember Ethan appearing on Season 4 of the TLC reality series with then-girlfriend Myrka Cantu, with whom he shares daughter Attalie.
Since appearing on ‘Unexpected,’ Ethan has fathered at least one more child, relocated to California and is running a business called AtoZ Consulting. According to Starcasm, as of last month, the former TLC star also became well acquainted with the local jail.
Jail records obtained by the site state that Ethan was arrested in Modesto, California, back in April and charged with robbery and battery after reportedly attempting to steal a tip jar from a marijuana dispensary. (The police report states that the “weapon” Ethan used in the robbery, which earned him the battery charge, was his hands.)
The alleged tip-jar thievery reportedly occurred April 6 around 7 p.m., at which point police were notified that a robbery was in progress; Ethan was arrested less than two miles from the marijuana dispensary approximately an hour later.
The father of (at least) two went on to post his $75,000 bail and was arraigned April 8. Ethan’s court hearing is scheduled for July 11.
Despite Ethan and Myrka’s tumultuous split and lengthy custody battle, the exes reportedly finalized a custody agreement for their daughter in April 2023. Per the agreement, Myrka retained primary custody of Attalie, while Ethan was granted visitation every first, third and fifth weekend (in the afternoon), and on the second and fourth Wednesdays (for an hour in the evening). Ethan was also ordered to pay child and medical support.
Since splitting with Ethan, Myrka went on to welcome daughter Axelia with her current partner in early 2023.
Myrka has not commented on Ethan’s recent arrest; however, Ethan responded to the news himself last month by issuing a cease and desist to the Instagram account @tlcunexpectedgoodbadandugly in response to the page posting public information about his arrest.
In the notice, Ethan accused the account of committing “unwarranted harassment activities” and threatened to take legal action against the individual who runs the account.
“If the activity continues, we will immediately seek a temporary restraining order in the district court against you and any accomplices in this matter,” the cease and desist stated. “We will also seek monetary damages to be provided at trial.”

This is pathetic. Those dispensary workers don’t make a lot of money and to have someone steal their tip jar?!!!
So he is a thief but is urging people to not talk about it because it causes him “distress”?
I’m surprised he hasn’t done worse…
How come? Am I missing something? Why did you expect worse?
