It’s only been one week since HGTV star Christina Hall and her husband Josh both filed for divorce, but the dissolution of their marriage is already starting to get pretty “flipping” messy.
According to court documents recently obtained by ET, Christina is accusing Josh of transferring $35,000 of her money into his own personal bank account prior to their split. She is demanding a judge force Josh to return the funds, stating that they “are specifically used to pay any loans, obligations, property taxes, insurance, and maintenance” on the rental properties she owns in Franklin, Tennessee and Nashville.
“Josh was able to divert over $35,000 of my separate property rental income into his account,” Christina stated in the court docs. “I am asking for Josh to account for the funds taken and return them to me…”
Christina claimed in the newly filed court documents that Josh texted her professional property manager on July 8 and asked the property manager to send the June payments to a different bank account than they were usually sent to. Christina included a screenshot of the alleged text, adding that she only found out about Josh’s alleged actions on July 21.
Christina insisted that she did not ask Josh to make the request, stating she did not even have any contact with Josh on July 8 at all.
“I would not have asked him to send himself my money the day after I told him we are getting divorced,” she wrote, adding that the property manager sent the money as Josh allegedly requested because the manager believed Christina had authorized the change of accounts.
“[The manager asked Josh] for account details and Josh provided his own Wells Fargo Bank account,” Christina wrote.
Christina is now asking an Orange County, California, judge to make Josh return the money she claims he took. She’s also asking that she be given exclusive use of the couple’s Newport Beach home, even though both her and Josh’s names are on the title. Christina stated that she and Josh purchased their Newport Beach home with the money made from selling a home in Dana Point, California, that she owned without Josh.
As The Ashley told you last week, Josh is asking that the court make Christina pay him alimony and to rule that Christina cannot collect financial support from him. He’s also asking the court to divide his and Christina’s assets based on what they each owned before marriage.
Further complicating the split, the pair– who reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement– are also jointly involved in multiple TV shows and projects, including Christina on the Coast and Christina in the Country, both of which Josh has appeared on and served as a producer on.
Josh is also asking for the rights to any HGTV and/or Discovery Network shows or specials he and Christina produced together during their blink-and-you-miss-it marriage.
In her newly filed court docs, Christina addressed the notion of alimony.
“I understand that at some point this court may require that I pay some spousal support to Josh and reasonable attorney’s fees to his counsel,” she stated. “However, it is my belief that this is a simple case with straightforward accounting over a short period of time, any fees and costs should be minimal.
“Like all hard-working mothers, my life revolves around my children and my work,” Christina continued. “It is my understanding that Josh has his own income and therefore he should not need any spousal support from me. He has sufficient assets of his own to pay his own attorney’s fees and costs.”
Christina went on to accuse her estranged ex of fudging the date of their separation to help cover up allegedly taking the $35k. (As The Ashley previously reported, Christina and Josh filed for divorce on the same day. However, Christina stated in her docs that their date of separation was July 7, while Josh listed it as July 8.)
“Quite frankly I am shocked and concerned by the fact that he has diverted over $35,000 of my separate property money to his separate account on July 8, 2024. The fact that this is the same date he now alleges to be our date of separation, even though it is actually July 7, 2024, makes it clear why he chose the next day,” Christina wrote.
“What else I am not aware of as it relates to his financial situation and that is why I am having a full forensic accounting performed for the entire term of our marriage,” she added.
Josh responded to ET‘s request for comment and denied doing anything wrong.
While Josh has not responded to Christina’s latest filing, Christina’s ex-husband, Tarek El Moussa, and his wife Heather have made it clear that they’re on Team Christina.
As The Ashley previously reported, it was announced in May that Christina and Josh would star alongside Heather and Tarek in the upcoming HGTV competition series The Flip Off.
Premiering in 2025, the series was set to show former husband and wife Tarek and Christina competing with their current spouses to see who can “find, buy, renovate and flip a house for the biggest financial gain.” While the series was already in production when Christina and Josh announced their split, a source told Us Weekly that the series is moving forward without Josh.
Heather confirmed to E! News this week that the series will now be “us against her”–- “us” being Heather and Tarek and “her” being a solo Christina. The couple insisted they are here to support Christina through her latest divorce.
“Life’s tough, s**t happens,” Tarek told the outlet. “We got one shot at life and we gotta do what’s best for us, so whatever she needs, we’re here to help.
“ … We have kids,” he went on to say. “Our families are close and we help each other.”
(Tarek and Christina, who were married from 2009 to 2018 and continued to host Flip or Flop together until 2021, are parents to 13-year-old daughter Taylor and 8-year-old son Brayden. Tarek and Heather welcomed son Tristan in 2023, while Christina co-parents four-year-old son Hudson with Ant Anstead, whom she was married to from 2018 to 2020.)
In addition to co-parenting duties, Heather has reportedly developed a friendship with her husband’s ex-wife in recent years, admitting that she and Christina “like to gang up on” Tarek.
“At some point, it’ll be the girls against me [on ‘The Flip Off’],” Tarek added.
Something viewers won’t see on the HGTV series is Tarek bro-ing out with Josh. Despite filming several cringy funny videos with Josh that were posted to social media to promote ‘The Flip Off,’ Tarek said that the two “didn’t get to spend too much time” together during the early production of ‘The Flip Off,’ and that “interactions were fairly limited on-camera.”
While Tarek said he’s unsure how the HGTV series will choose to address Christina and Josh’s split, he assures viewers that “a lot of really funny scenes” were filmed for the series.

I actually think Tarek and Heather, are handling this really well. Tarek is right they have two kids together, and they will be in each other lives forever. Best to just say, we are here for her and wish her well, and keep it moving. They probably have opinions, but are keeping them offline.
But I think Christina needs to be single for a while, she has ended three marriages in the span of 6 years. She clearly didn’t know this last husband well enough and didn’t get a pre-nup. The guy is shady in transferring funds, not okay. But he’s now going to get a lot in a divorce. She needs to pump the breaks, do some internal work, and even date, but don’t get married. Last thing she needs is 4 divorces or 5 in less than 10 years.
Shady has hell if he really did swap out the bank accounts. Yeesh
Why was there no prenuptial? That’s their fault
