“1000-Lb. Sisters” Star Tammy Slaton Reflects On Her 500-Pound Weight Loss Journey: “I Had a Lot of Demons”

“I’m a whole new Tammy, y’all!”

Tammy Slaton is 500 pounds lighter than she was when viewers first met her and her sister Amy Slaton on TLC’s 1000-Lb. Sisters and she’s eager to share her weight loss journey with fans– including “the highs, the lows and everything in between.”

On Tuesday, Tammy posted a video in which she first explained to fans why she likes to post photos of herself on social media, claiming it isn’t just because she likes the way she looks today.

“I take a lot of pictures, a lot of selfies, and I do [it] not because I think I look good– well, I do [think I look good], a little bit– but mostly because I want to remember how big I was, what I looked like, and reflect,” Tammy said. “Dude, I was huge! I lost 500 pounds … .”

As The Ashley previously reported, Tammy– who told fans she’s actually lost more than 500 pounds at this point– left an Ohio rehab facility in February 2023 nearly 300 pounds lighter after abstaining from alcohol, smoking and vaping for the final nine months of her 14-month stay. She also underwent bariatric surgery at the end of summer in 2022.

Tammy had checked into the Ohio rehab facility at the end of 2021 after displaying “reckless” behavior. Fans of the show may recall her admitting to her doctor on the TLC series that she was downing “maybe eight bottles a week”– as in eight fifths of liquor.

Tammy, revealing how she used to spend most of her days…

In her latest Instagram post, Tammy addressed her past alcohol dependency and explained why she believes it became such an issue for her.

“ … I think I was trying to be so focused on losing weight [that] I lost myself, lost who I was and I turned to alcohol instead of food,” she explained. “And at the same time, I was still eating. I was doing both– damage in two different ways.”

While reflecting on how far she’s come, Tammy admitted it would be “so easy” to revert back to how she used to live, but she’s determined to continue fighting.

“It would be so easy to fall back into bad habits and gain all the weight back, but then what was this all for?” Tammy said. “Waste of time, waste of money, waste of effort, waste. It’s not a diet. They say it’s a lifestyle change, it really is. I had a lot of demons– inner demons– that I had to fight and I’m still fighting.”

Tammy ended her video by telling fans that they are “not alone.”

“You can do anything once you put your mind into it,” she added. “Never give up.”

  1. Tammy seems to be doing well and is reflective. Clearly there were a lot of emotions to confront and work through with her addictions. I would assume that was quite intense.

  2. I couldn’t stand Tammy before. She was mean, selfish and downright nasty to people. Since losing weight (and in her last season) she became someone that I didn’t recognize. She was kind, patient and giving to those around her. I think she hated herself before. And I think what we are seeing now is that she loves herself and is proud of herself.

Meanwhile Amy has taken over Tammy’s old personality. Amy has turned into the one that is toxic. Which is a shame because her two sons need someone that isn’t selfish and lazy.

So congrats to Tammy.🥳Here’s hoping for the sake of her boys that Amy gets her shit together.🤞🏼
