Days after filing for divorce from Jax Taylor, Brittany Cartwright is speaking out on her decision to officially leave her husband. She also revealed how the divorce will play out on The Valley, and how she and Jax plan to handle the podcast they co-host together.
“I think we’re gonna start off with the elephant in the room. So, it’s been a big week,” Brittany started out the latest episode of her and Jax’s When Reality Hits podcast.
Although the episode was a “rewind” and basically just an old podcast episode being reposted, Brittany did record a new intro to finally speak out on the week’s big news. As The Ashley previously reported, Brittany filed for divorce from Jax on Tuesday. Although the couple has been living apart since February, Jax and Brittany appeared to be holding out hope that their marriage could be saved.
Jax— who was served the divorce papers while he was filming for the second season of ‘The Valley’— has yet to speak publicly on Brittany’s decision to file; however, a source recently told Page Six that Jax is “on-board” with the divorce.
“I’m sure everyone listening has seen the news online by now that I’ve filed for divorce from Jax,” Brittany said during her podcast intro. “I, unfortunately, can’t speak on details because everything has been heavily documented on the show. Since we happen to be filming right now, you will see how everything plays out once the show airs, but I will say this: this season has been the most-difficult season I have ever had to film.”
Brittany went on to discuss how hard it’s been to have her divorce play out so publicly.
“I never imagined I’d go through something so personal, so painful, while having the world watch…” Brittany said, choking up. “I’m not saying this for anyone to feel badly, because I know this is the life I chose, and I’m so fortunate in many ways. But I will always want to be real with y’all.”
She then addressed the fan theories that claim she and Jax orchestrated their split in order to give themselves a storyline for ‘The Valley.’ (Shortly after splitting from Jax, Brittany denied that the show had anything to do with her decision to leave Jax.)
“Many have said online they think this has been a publicity stunt for the show, or to garner ratings, and it’s the furthest thing from that,” she said on the podcast. “My decision to file wasn’t made lightly or quickly. It’s taken me many, many years to get to this point, where I’ve gained enough courage and strength to do what is best for me, get myself out of a toxic relationship, and ultimately see my worth.
“It’s been very difficult, but I’m stronger than ever. My motivation is my son, my Cruzzy, who deserves a happy and healthy mommy,” Brittany added.
Finally, Brittany revealed the fate of When Reality Hits. She and Jax had previously attempted to continue to co-host the podcast together; however, now that the divorce is in process, Brittany revealed that they would no longer be doing that.
“Moving forward, Jax and I will be doing the podcast separately,” she said. “Thank you all for the support. I love you very much. I hope you enjoy an episode that has some of our best memories together, from the past.”
As The Ashley previously told you, Brittany stated in her divorce filing that she and Jax officially separated on January 24, 2024. (The news of the split didn’t go public until February, however.) According to the court documents she filed, Brittany is seeking primary legal and physical custody of Cruz and wants visitation for Jax. She did not make any mention of child support requests in the documents she filed.
She is also asking that the court prevent either party from seeking spousal support from the other. The Ashley can also confirm that Brittany is asking the court to rule that she and Jax are each responsible for their own court and attorney’s fees. However, she does state that she “reserves the right to request reimbursement and credits and any other relief that the Court deems equitable, just and proper in this manner.”
No future hearing has been scheduled yet.
Jax has not yet publicly commented on the divorce filing. He has 30 calendar days to respond to the legal summons filed by Brittany on Tuesday.

…uhh if it wasn’t you have to say you “can’t speak on details because everything has been heavily documented on the show”
This is the whole reason you went on the show and separated first instead of immediately divorcing.
You think not but I stick by what I said, this is fake as hell. all for ratings and a new season after season. Just Watch how many spin offs these 2 will be on.
Why would you think it’s fake? This is a couple who never should have been married to begin with. Jax is a red flag forest. Brittany was seeking fame. Hopefully their son doesn’t suffer too much.
Some idiots said the same about Tom and Ariana. LOL. It’s not hard at all to believe that Jax and Brittany didn’t work out.
I agree with you. How tf were Tom and Ariana fake? They were together for 9 years, with a mortgage. Tom is insufferable, he’s not a chill person that you’d fake being in a relationship with for ratings. Clearly people suggesting that have never seen VPR.
Eww, no one wants to listen to your lame ass podcast.
Brittany would be foolish if she didn’t film with Jax because that’s the only way that Jax has to help with the financial responsibility that was going to come with Cruz. She would definitely be spitting herself.
I don’t think that this is fake for the show. I do think that Jax has shown Brittany the type of man he was day one and she shut her eyes as tightly as she could and ignored it. He is a liar and a cheater. He has always been that way and he will probably never change.
If Lala does join the Valley it will be funny to see how she handles Brittany refusing to film with Jax. She had a lot to say about Ariana (though still filming with Tom in the same room) not wanting to have one on one conversations with Tom. I hope Lala & Scheana do not join the Valley. I feel like it will ruin that show.
Gemma I have to say as usual, you are always spot on with your posts. Once again I agree with all you had to say.
Side note: Love your username. I have a beautiful Persian cat I named Gemma (named after a character on Sons of Anarchy). We call her “Gemmie” though.
