‘The Valley’ Star Jax Taylor Reveals He’s Been Diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder & PTSD: “It’s Been a Lot to Process”

Jax Taylor is giving his fans an update on his recent stay at a mental health treatment facility.

The star of The Valley took to Instagram on Monday to reveal to his supporters that he has known for a long time that something was “wrong” with him but wasn’t sure what it was. According to Jax, he received a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and PTSD while at the mental health facility.

Until Monday, Jax— who is currently going through a divorce from wife Brittany Cartwright— had not shared much about his time at the treatment center since he checked in about a month ago. While he has yet to comment on his divorce, Jax did open up about his diagnosis.

“A little over a month ago, I checked into an intensive inpatient treatment facility scared of the unknown and what I would find out about myself,” he wrote in the caption of a photo of himself posted to Instagram. “After many years of knowing something was wrong but not knowing exactly what it was, I recently learned that I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD.

“It’s been a lot to process and an emotional time for me, however I’ve come home to my son with a newfound sense of peace,” he continued. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared for the future, but my focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. Mental health is a lifelong battle of not letting it control you but rather you learning to control it.

“Thank you everyone who has reached out in support and who also shared their own personal struggles with me. Your messages have helped me more than you know.”

In the comment section, fans were asking Jax to reveal why he was diagnosed with PTSD, but the former Vanderpump Rules star did not respond to the questions. Others accused Jax of using the diagnosis as a way to cover up for his past bad behavior, or as a storyline for ‘The Valley,’ which Jax has been filming for.

“You left treatment early just so you could start filming again so you should be treating your mental health more seriously than that,” one person wrote in the post’s comment section.

When Jax checked into the facility at the end of July, it was supposed to be for a 30-day stay. Jax did not confirm if he made it the full 30 days at the facility, but he was seen filming for Season 2 of ‘The Valley’ in late August. When he checked in, his rep gave a statement to TMZ.

“Jax has always been candid about his mental health struggles, especially during the past few months on his podcast,” a rep for Jax told the site at the time. “He has made the decision to seek in-patient treatment. This is a particularly sensitive time for him and his family. They ask for privacy and respect until he is ready to speak more on this matter.”

In the days leading up to the announcement, Jax hinted on social media that he was looking for some help even posting a Buddhism quote to Instagram.

“Be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help, and brave enough to ask for it.”

Weeks before Jax announced he was heading to the facility, he had stated his and Brittany’s When Reality Hits podcast that he had been working on his temper and anger issues. During an episode of the podcast in June, Jax said he met a doctor at his Studio City, California, bar, who has been helping him.

“She’s absolutely amazing,” Jax said of the doctor. “And I went in there and I literally just broke down. I’m like, ‘This is what’s wrong with me and this is what I’m doing, and this is who l’m attacking, and I have serious, serious anger issues, and I have a child and I don’t want him to see me act like that.’”

It is unknown if Jax’s recent diagnosis will be addressed on ‘The Valley’ Season 2.

    1. Actually it’s not just people in the military. I have cptsd and bipolar. I lived in fear my entire childhood. I was abused in every way. My stepdad told me he was going to kill me like a guy killed his daughters nearby. He pulled a gun on my mom. He would come home drunk and scream while banging on the windows. Being in those situations as a child absolutely causes ptsd.

  1. EVERYTHING this thirsty 🥤 AF ahole does is for attention, to garner sympathy, or for a storyline. perpetual victim who takes zero accountability for his behavior.
and brittany (aka KFC 🐔) is just as bad.

    1. WOW! You nailed it 100%. If you go back and read all my comments on here and AATT everything I said is all happening. Didn’t anyone think it was odd Jax never moved out of the main house and that Brit never moved any of their son’s furniture or things into her apt. I said she would file for divorce and of course the cameras would just so happen to be there. Now, she will either call of the divorce after a season or 2 saying she is giving him 1 more chance or she will go through with it drag that out with them both seeing fake partners only to remarry ON THE SHOW, another free wedding! Watch how many spinoffs they will be on. Remember people, Jax said he knows how to create drama for high ratings.

  2. This isn’t surprising information, but probably for Jax. I’m not speaking about the PTSD, but the bipolar diagnosis. It’s probably a lot to digest. 3 weeks is enough to get started on medication and therapy. Hopefully he continues outpatient.

My ex went through a forced rehab (where he only spent 8 days), where he was diagnosed with bipolar. I just see some similarities with behavior. My ex threw all his pills in the garbage, in front of me, and didn’t continue therapy. Hopefully Jax doesn’t do that.
