Leave it to Jax Taylor to prove the old adage that a man who represents himself has a fool for a client.
Last month, The Valley star acted as his own legal counsel when he filed a response to paperwork filed by his estranged wife Brittany Cartwright to end their five-year marriage, as The Ashley reported. When filing the response on his own, Jax made a few mistakes, such as reporting that the pair weren’t legally married. That error led to comments from both Brittany and wedding officiant Lance Bass on a post on E!’s Instagram account.
“We are legally married. I’m guessing paperwork is hard for some people,” Brittany commented.
“I can confirm this. Pastor Lance signed the papers,” the former teen idol replied to Brittany.
Now Jax has brought in an expert to help clean up the divorce paperwork mess. According to a report from Us Weekly, the former model hired lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan, who also represents Kevin Federline. With the assistance of the family law specialist– who seemingly also specializes in cases involving women named Brittany/Britney– Jax made a new filing on Friday.
“While Jax made errors in filling out forms that are usually done by trained legal professionals, those errors will be amended without delay,” a statement from reps for the Number-One Guy in the Group to Us Weekly read.
One issue within the original error-filled filing that caught a lot of attention was Jax granting primary legal and physical custody of the couple’s three-year-old son, Cruz, to Brittany. According to his reps, that issue is also being taken care of.
“Jax and Brittany have already long resolved all matters related to custody of Cruz, and will continue to work together privately for the best interest of their son, which remains their overriding concern,” the rep’s statement read.
No word yet on who will get custody of the couple’s Studio City sports bar and its issues with the health department.
