‘Teen Mom’ Star Ashley Jones’ Divorce From Bar Smith On Hold After She Failed to Show Up to Court; Ashley Explains Why

“I KNEW I shouldn’t have been tardy for the divorce hearing party…”

Ashley Jones and Bar Smith are still legally married after both parties failed to attend a hearing to settle their divorce that was scheduled for Wednesday.

As The Ashley previously told you, the Teen Mom: The Next Chapter star filed to officially end her marriage to Bar in late July, less than a month after Bar was arrested in Henderson, Nevada, on a slew of charges stemming from an incident that occurred between he and Ashley on July 7.

The ‘Teen Mom’ dad– who shares daughter Holly with Ashley– currently remains in jail, with his case set to go to trial March 31, 2025. In the meantime, though, Ashley and Bar were due to appear in court this week to settle their divorce, which neither party was contesting. However, Starcasm reported on Thursday that the couple’s divorce had been taken “off the calendar after neither party nor their attorneys showed up for court” on Wednesday.

In documents obtained by the outlet, both Ashley and Bar were listed as “not present” for Wednesday’s hearing, which was scheduled for 9 a.m. in Clark County, Nevada.

“Court noted the time is 9:24 a.m., and no party is present,” the documents stated. “Petitioner will have to re-file and re-notice to set matter before the court.”

After news of her court “no-show” was reported, Ashley took to the comment section of a post about the cast on the @TeenMomShadeRoom Instagram account to explain that her divorce from Bar is still very much on, and that she did show up to the hearing but was late.

“Lol I was ten minutes late,” she wrote. “The case has already been refiled. These comments are insane lol.”

Ashley went on to explain that her and Bar’s daughter wasn’t picked up for school on Wednesday until 8:30 a.m.– presumably by the school bus– after which she had a 20- to 25-minute drive to the courthouse.

“I was rushing and just late. That’s all,” she wrote, later adding, “Life happens. I’m not gonna punish myself for running late.”

The ‘Teen Mom’ star pointed out to fans that she’s been present for all of her previous court dates and simply “fell short” this week, which she said was “not the end of the world.”

“Mind you I’m spending MY MONEY filing all this,” she continued. “If I wanted to stay married I would, it’s cheaper.”

When asked why her attorney didn’t attend Wednesday’s hearing on her behalf, Ashley said she doesn’t have an attorney and is representing herself in the divorce.

“I’m doing it on my own,” she revealed.

Ashley also addressed those who are speculating that she only filed for divorce so she’d have a storyline for the next season of ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.’

“ … I don’t need to do s**t for a storyline,” she argued. “I think it’s pretty clear I could sit on my couch and cry for the rest for the next two seasons, and that would be enough lol. Just stop with the narratives.

“Me– and my sofa— feel personally attacked!”

“Sometimes people are late to court,” she continued. “Life happens.”

As The Ashley previously told you, Ashley is requesting in her divorce filing that she be granted sole custody of her and Bar’s daughter and she has asked that the court determine the child support amount that Bar would be required to pay her.

She is not, however, seeking any spousal support from Bar, nor is she requesting visitation for Bar regarding Holly, explaining in the documents that Bar is “in jail until further notice.”

“[Bar] is currently in jail awaiting trial for a DV case against myself,” she detailed. “He is in jail on multiple felony charges. Given that he is already on probation out of California for gun charges and he is [now] in Nevada custody on more serious charges I fear his decision making skills are very questionable.”

    1. As if you know her personal life or her interactions with her neighbors! Just curious what gives you the right to assume anything about her life? Single parenting is hard shit happens

      1. Yes single parenting is hard BUT a good parent plans (with multiple plans) ahead so shit doesn’t happen.

They don’t just make one plan and hope that it all works…should’ve had a backup.

  1. She is a smart girl and will do just fine without an attorney. Glad to see her finally getting away from him. He has a short fuse for sure. Hopefully she gets a “No contact order” so she can sleep at night and not have to worry about her and Holly’s safety.

    1. “Smart girl”? I wouldn’t go that’s far. Both she and Bar are DISASTERS…that poor Holly got SEVERELY screwed in the parent department!!!
