SUR Manager Peter Madrigal Talks About Stars of ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Reboot; Opens Up About Potential OG Cast Spinoff & More

“They don’t call me Peter ‘Playing the Long Game’ Madrigal for nothing!”

Peter Madrigal– the longtime manager of SUR who has frequently appeared on Vanderpump Rules throughout the show’s 11 seasons– opened up this week about what fans can expect to see in the upcoming season of the Bravo series, as well as a potential spinoff being discussed with some of the show’s OGs.

As The Ashley recently told you, Season 12 of ‘Vanderpump Rules’ will return to the show’s roots, with an entirely new cast of staffers who work at SUR– the West Hollywood restaurant owned by the show’s matriarch and namesake, Lisa Vanderpump.

In a new interview on The Domenick Nati Show, Peter revealed what (and who) fans can expect to see in the upcoming season, which will take the Bravo series “back to basics.”

“ … the only one who’s still there is yours truly,” Peter said.

(While Peter didn’t mention it in his interview, Lisa will also be returning for Season 12.)

As viewers may remember, it was revealed early in the show that Peter had previously dated both Katie Maloney and Stassi Schroeder, and during filming, the SUR manager went on to (unsuccessfully) pursue cast members Vail Bloom and Rachel Leviss. While none of his restaurant romances stood the test of time– or in some cases, didn’t even make it to a second date– Peter said his days of dating co-workers are behind him, though he assures fans that the no fraternization policy won’t apply to the rest of the SUR staff.

“Go forth and fornicate, newbies. Preferably NOT in the staff bathrooms.”

“ … There’s a bunch of people that already date anyway … ,” Peter said, when asked if SUR employee relationships will be frowned upon in the reboot. “ … the only person that doesn’t date the staff is me. I don’t date any of the staff. But everybody else, I guess, I mean it’s a work environment, so it’s fair game.”

When discussing cast relationships, Peter denied that Scandoval– the months-long affair between Tom Sandoval and Rachel– was the driving force behind the ‘Vanderpump Rules’ reboot, insisting there were “much bigger” issues that contributed to the show needing a cast overhaul. Still, he admits that Scandoval was “definitely part of” the reason the show needed a crop of new faces.

Yeah, pretty much.

While Peter said he believes the reboot should focus on the restaurant business, he admits there needs to be some drama in order for it to be successful, claiming that’s exactly what fans can expect in Season 12.

“I mean, the reason why the show worked is because of all the drama, so I think that focusing on the drama works,” he said. “I mean, focus on the business aspects a little bit, but the drama is going to be there, too. Expect more drama and more shenanigans at SUR.”

Peter said it’s important for the new cast to get along with one another, though he also acknowledged that many friendships among the OG cast “no longer exist” today. Peter claims he’s still friends with a few of the OGs, though he agreed that a lot of the cast have moved on and are living lives that are separate from the Bravo series.

“I’m still friends with Scheana [Shay] and … Ariana [Madix] and I are still cool and the same with Katie, but everybody else … ,” he said, while shaking his head.

Peter said that, given the history and the relationships that occurred between cast members, he believes many of the OGs essentially just had enough of one another. Peter insisted, however, that the drama among the cast was never staged for the show and assured fans that it won’t be staged in the reboot, either.

“I’m dealing with a lot of the same [drama] right now,” Peter revealed.

In addition to being the longtime manager of SUR, Peter is also the owner/president of Reality Network, which streams on ROKU. While he’ll no longer be appearing with any of the OGs on Bravo, Peter said he’s open to doing a spinoff on ‘Reality Network’ with any of his former castmates. Well, ALMOST any of them.

“I’m not gonna give anything away, but yes, I would [be interested in doing a spinoff with them],” Peter said. “ … I don’t know about [Sandoval], but anybody else.

“Whatever, dude. I’m too busy running a restaurant to do your little spinoff, anyway. Oh, wait…”

“ … There’s a certain group of people that I’ve talked to about it already,” he revealed. “I’ve already had discussions about doing some stuff with some of my old castmates.”
