David Murphey of 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days died last week at the age of 66.
David’s family posted a statement to his verified Instagram page on Wednesday, confirming that David passed away December 11, “after experiencing health issues over the last several years.”
The family went on to note that David was a veteran, small business owner and software engineer who had recently retired from the Clark County Treasurer’s Office in Nevada. They also mentioned David’s time as a cast member on Season 4 of “Before the 90 Days.”
“His time on the show allowed him to connect with viewers, see the world, and share his experiences with his thousands of followers on Instagram,” they wrote.
As fans of the 90 Day Fiance franchise may remember, David was a cast member on Season 4 of the spinoff, where his seven-year online relationship with girlfriend Lana was documented. (Although David and Lana ended up getting engaged during David’s trip to Ukraine, he and Lana never married and eventually broke up.)
David shared with followers on Instagram Live in March 2023 that he had “been ill” and in and out of the hospital for a few months, according to The Sun. At the time, David said that doctors hadn’t determined a diagnosis, though he revealed that his liver was “not working right.”
While David’s family has asked for privacy during this difficult time, they’ve invited David’s friends and fans to make a donation to The Animal Foundation in his name.
“As many knew, David had a fierce love for cats,” they wrote. “He always made an effort to adopt cats and give them a good loving home. David’s choice for adopting was from The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas. For friends and fans who want to help, we ask that you honor his memory by making a donation to The Animal Foundation in his name.”
Tom Brooks, who was also featured on Season 4 of “Before the 90 Days,” commented on the news of David’s passing, revealing that he had just recently spent time with his former cast mate.
“We were only with him last week RIP my friend heartbreaking,” Tom wrote.
Other stars from the “90 Day Fiance” franchise also shared their condolences on David’s page, including Amira Lollysa, who referred to the former TLC star as “my friend.”
“So sorry to hear that,” Statler Riley added. “He was such a nice guy. Shocking and unexpected. May he rest easy. Will definitely send a donation for cats, so glad that he had a passion for them.”
“I spoke to him about 6 weeks ago for a couple of hours and he was hopeful that he still had more time,” David Toborowsky wrote. “May he rest in peace.”
“I am so sorry to see this he was a very wonderful man,” Ella Johnson wrote. “My deepest sympathy to his friends family and all who loved him.”
UPDATE! According to TMZ, David had been battling liver cancer for the last year of his life. He also had a history of pulmanory embolism– a blockage in the lung stemming from a blood clot. The site reports that David’s official cause of death was heart-related: cardiac arrhythmia and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
