‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ To Return in January & Will Show Original “16 & Pregnant” Kids Turning 16 Themselves: Watch the First Trailer

“Thanks for keeping me from having to get a real job for 16 years, buddy!”

Well, guys, we’ve finally hit that day: The kids born on 16 and Pregnant are now 16 themselves.

(The line to sign yourself up for AARP forms right here, ladies and gentlemen.)

On Friday, MTV announced that Teen Mom: The Next Chapter will return next month and, in the first trailer released of the new season, we see the first “16 and Pregnant” kids hitting that milestone Sweet 16 birthday.

“Sixteen years ago on MTV, a phen-mom-enom was born,” the voiceover in the trailer says (as we all cringe over the horrible pun).

We are then treated to flashback clips of the births of the babies from the first few seasons of “16 and Pregnant,” followed by a montage of photos from the last 16 years of the MTV cash cows kids growing up. We also see the moms’ struggles over the years: break-ups, additional “Oopsie Babies being born, physical fights, unfortunate BBLs and all.

#NeverForget

“All of their struggles have led us to this super sweet season!”

We see Maci Bookout talking to her son Bentley— who is the eldest of all the “16 and Pregnant”-born babies— about his approaching 16th birthday.

“You’re about to turn 16!” she tells him, to which Bentley replies, “I don’t know what I’d do if I had a kid right now.”

“I do! We’d call in another camera crew and start pitching, ‘Teen Mom: The Next Generation!’ Ratings gold, kid!”

Leah Shirley— who is the daughter of Gary Shirley and Amber Portwood— is also preparing to turn 16. (Her birthday is in November, so this footage was probably shot relatively recently.) Leah is shown hoping into a car as she learns to drive.

“We watch the ‘Teen Mom’ story come full circle,” the voiceover says.

That face you make when you realize you’ve been watching this crap for 16 years and seeing it come “full circle” ain’t the flex they think it is…

We also see Leah Messer‘s daughters, Ali and Aleeah, as they turn 15, and Mackenzie McKee‘s son, Gannon, react to Mack giving him a talk about growing up.

“You’re, like, a teenager,” she says before asking a mortified Gannon, “Do you have hairy armpits?!”

Also featured in the trailer are Ashley Jones, Cheyenne Floyd and Catelynn Lowell. (It’s likely that this upcoming season will show Catelynn and her husband Tyler Baltierra battle their bio daughter Carly’s parentsBrandon and Teresa Davis, after they were cut out of Carly’s life earlier this year.)

“We are just…um, thrilled for that…”

Missing from the trailer are Jade Cline and Jenelle Evans. The Ashley broke the news earlier this year that Jenelle had been let go from ‘Next Chapter’ after only one season, due to her not giving the “redemption arc” the producers had hoped she would after her split from David Eason. (You can read all about that, and Jenelle’s battle to get out of her MTV contract by clicking here!)

There’s a slight chance Jenelle could be shown in this upcoming season; however, it would be footage filmed before she was let go that hadn’t been used last season.

While Amber isn’t shown in the trailer, she has confirmed that she will be back for this season, and that it will show the breakdown of her co-parenting relationship with Gary, as well as her continued estrangement from daughter Leah.

‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ Season 2B premieres Thursday, January 30, 2025 on MTV.

  1. What I’d actually watch is a catch-up on the ones that didn’t continue on with the show. A “16 and Pregnant: 16 Years Later” type thing to see how their lives turned out. Not a series or anything, just a one time episode for each like the original show.

  2. When did Bentley get SO TALL?! It’s fun watching these kids grow up being 16 themselves (without expecting babies! This is the most important part!) but I hope after this they can finally have a normal life without cameras. Make it the last season, MTV.

  3. Would have been more fun to check in with the others from 16&Pregnant. Tanks to TheAshley we know how the Teen Moms are doing without even having to watch the show(THANK YOU!).

  4. So MTV (and their parents) have been exploiting these kids for literally THEIR WHOLE LIVES. And we are supposed to celebrate that?

      1. Same thing with psychopath!!! She’s always trying to do anything for attention and a storyline even if it means she sleeps with a random stranger on national television that she just met!!!

  5. And in 2 years, they’ll be going off to college, while mom sits on her unemployed ass talking about .. nothing.
Same nothing they’ve talked about for 16 years. Smh.

My last episode was Jenelle nodding off on a couch with Kieffer while Barb and Mike retell the story to.. who, exactly?? Each other? Such an odd scene.

The recaps keep me updated. It’s like FB stalking an ex. I keep tabs on the girls bc at one time, they did bring more enjoyment than disappointment.

  6. Yet a new low for MTV dragging Brandon and Theresa into a national spotlight yet again. The network is completely amoral. And no. I don’t watch, but I can’t resist The Ashley’s brutal sarcasm.

      1. Because giving a child a loving, happy life, while saving the biological parents countless years of struggle and heartache is such a terrible, wicked thing to do, and akin to stealing a baby.

A fruitcake made with quikrete is less dense….

(if you don’t know what quikrete is, look it up)

      2. They didn’t steal that baby. Go back and rewatch their 16 & Pregnant episode. Everything was explained to them by the adoption counselor. Just because they lied and said they understood when they didn’t, doesn’t mean it wasn’t explained to them.

      3. Stealing a baby?
        Like.. kidnapped??

No. They signed legal paperwork making it legal. It’s legal. It’s not stealing when both parties agree.
