Jenelle Evans has some thoughts on Amber Portwood‘s recent TikTok Live and, on Saturday, the fired Teen Mom: The Next Chapter star took to TikTok Live herself to air out those thoughts…. as well as her thoughts on the rest of the cast of the MTV show.
As The Ashley previously told you, Amber hit TikTok Live in the wee hours of Christmas Eve to throw out some jaw-dropping accusations against her baby daddy Gary Shirley, calling him a “pedo,” a rapist and a bad dad, among other things. (Amber has not logged onto TikTok Live since then, and Gary has not yet spoken out about Amber’s claims.)
Although Gary hasn’t spoken out, Jenelle did. When she was asked by fans what she thought about what Amber did, Jenelle did not hold back.
“What do I think about Amber’s Live? I already touched on this, but I don’t think she should be acting so ignorant,” Jenelle said. “It just shows her character as a person.”
Jenelle then offered Amber some advice. (No…seriously.)
“You just need to be nicer,” Jenelle insisted. “Just kind of kill people with kindness.”
Jenelle also aired her thoughts on Amber keeping her spot on ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter,’ while she was let go.
“You gotta go ask [MTV why]. I don’t have no control,” Jenelle said, adding that she is “not allowed to” explain why she was booted from the show after just one season. (She did claim it was a mutual decision between her, Paramount and MTV. However, if you want to know the real story about her being let go, click here!)
“I came a long way, she has not!” Jenelle said of Amber. “What I don’t understand– well I do understand— but what I was going to say is I don’t understand why she’s on [the show] and she doesn’t have custody of any of her kids. Like, not one kid you can film.”
(As ‘Teen Mom’ fans are aware, Amber shares her daughter Leah with Gary but currently has no relationship with the 16-year-old. Amber shares her son, James, with ex Andrew Glennon, who recently did an interview claiming Amber is an active mother to James.)
Jenelle claimed that she is probably “easier to work with” than Amber, and then suggested that Kristina Shirley— who is the stepmom of Amber’s daughter Leah—take Amber’s place on the show.
“She needs to chill. She needs to think before she speaks, and she needs to choose her words wisely,” Jenelle added later. “When you’re on Live, you can’t just go rant and blurt things out. First of all, you get banned from TikTok, but second of all, the character of yourself. Don’t seem ignorant, is what I’m saying.”
This is not the first time Jenelle has publicly questioned the fairness of MTV allowing Amber to keep her spot on ‘Teen Mom.’ Back in 2022, Jenelle– who had been fired from Teen Mom 2 a few years before– hopped on Instagram Live to state that Amber should have been fired after she was arrested for domestic violence against Andrew in 2019. (This Live was during the infamous Amber/Jenelle Instagram Brawl of 2022…oh, wait a time we had!)
“When it comes to you, I don’t find it quite fair that I was let go from MTV for no reason…Yet you had a machete and a whole incident, still have trouble seeing your kid, but then you want to sit here and say how bad I am,” Jenelle said during the 2022 rant.
Jenelle also used Saturday’s Live to give her thoughts on the rest of the ‘Teen Mom’ girls— and, needless to say, given her past feuds with a lot of them— she didn’t have many nice things to say about them.
“[Maci], never reached out. She keeps to herself,” Jenelle said. “I feel like the only people Maci cares about are the girls she was originally on the show with: Amber, Catelynn and Maci. They stick together, they talk to each other, they visit each other– only because it’s forced. But they want nothing to do with the rest of us girls.”
“[Maci] doesn’t even talk to, even Bri[ana DeJesus]. It’s like those three girls shut out the rest of us.”
As for Chelsea Houska, Jenelle claimed she was “always quiet” and didn’t really hang out with the rest of the girls at the Reunions.
“She’s acts like you don’t exist at the Reunion but wants to stick her heard out of the door and listen to all the drama,” Jenelle insisted.
“Leah [Messer]? She’s two-faced,” Jenelle said.
Jenelle seemed to have a specific event in her head where she felt Leah was “two-faced.”
“She’s another girl who will be nice to you but then you get to the VMAs and she acts like you don’t exist,” she said.
(The Ashley did a little research, and it’s likely Jenelle is talking about the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), in which both Leah and Jenelle attended. Jenelle was accompanied by her ever-present then-soulmate David Eason. This was after David called Dr. Drew Pinsky a “fa**ot” during the ‘Teen Mom 2’ Reunion, and made a huge scene, so it’s not surprising that Leah wanted to keep her distance from David and Jenelle.)
Anyway, Jenelle went on to give a shoutout to Briana for being nice despite the “mean girl energy” of the ‘Teen Mom 2’ cast.
“The only person who wasn’t a mean girl was Bri,” she said. “I know some of you don’t like Bri, but Bri is real. She’s real, she’s honest. She actually, like, cares about people and cares about her friends. But the rest of the girls? It seems like they do it for the cameras, if you know what I mean.
“I’m not like that. That’s why you don’t see me hanging out with everyone on-camera,” Jenelle insisted. “Because, if you’re my friend, you’re my friend. We’re not faking it. I’m not faking it. And that’s another creative difference [MTV and I] had.”
Jenelle then stated that she wants her own show, because she knows “exactly what you guys want.”
“I know what you guys want to see, what you want to hear, and I know who you guys want to hear. So, just let them do their thing, I’m gonna do my thing, that’s all,” Jenelle said, before suggesting MTV make her a producer on the show.
The (Jenelle-less) ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ Season 2B premieres next month.

Well, unfortunately, Jenelle isn’t entirely wrong. There’s no reason Amber should still be on the show. She’s endangered the lives of BOTH of her children at this point. She’s not doing anything to better herself. She’s not an active parent. She does more to hurt mental health awareness than to help. Jenelle isn’t much better and shouldn’t be on the show either. But you can’t fire one and keep another when their antics are just about the same.
Same with Farrah and Cate and Tyler. Farrah got fired for doing adult content (at least, that’s what they went with, we all know it wasn’t just that). But have said nothing about Tyler’s adult content. It’s even been discussed about them posting content on the show!

Okay I’m not Janelle’s biggest fan, BUT she has a point, MTV enable Amber & have done for years, same with some of her fellow cast members aka Maci & Cate. It’s time for these ladies to speak up, cause the more you give Amber that pity & let her play victim the more she will make excuses for shitty behaviour. She needs to be held accountable. More power to the ladies like Janelle & Briana for speaking out. She needs to be fired from the show.

I suspect the only reason Amber is still on while Jenelle is not is because Amber isn’t a high maintenance cast member. Obviously, Amber is an absolute mess of a person, but it seems like she’s never really been difficult for the crew or made endless lists of demands. So, she brings the drama without the behind-the-scenes drama. Meanwhile, Jenelle is constantly. Making demands and being high maintenance, so they decided she’s not worth it. It’s not about who has come a long way (since neither has). It’s about who is easier to deal with.

I think Amber should have been kicked off the show years ago, when she first laid hands on Gary and got arrested. If not then, when she came at Andrew with machete!!! Jenelle has stood by people that have done shitty things, and got kicked off, so Amber is doing the shitty things herself, so why does she get to stay? Listen up, MTV, here’s what the people really want: Teen Mom Boxing. Put any of these girls that have been beefing with each other in the ring for ten rounds.
Or just do one of the other options we’d all enjoy more: boot these women and follow the side characters (various grandmas and baby daddii), do a one episode each catch-up special on 16 and Pregnant girls that didn’t make the Teen Mom cut, or just go back to the original 16 and Pregnant style of new girls getting one episode and a reunion. Any of that would be more watchable than 30+ year old rich women that have never had to work and have no concept of actual reality.

In reality, they both have had unfair advantages. Look at how much time amber spent in jail verse Jenelle. They really both deserve to be locked up IMO. But for all of the crimes Jenelle committed she got a slap on the wrist. Not to mention the fact she has custody of her kids, even with all the CPS “investigations”
They both suck. They both need to be off tv and have to actually work for money.
Jennelle might still be on the show when she didn’t have her kids. The mental abuse, neglect and bad parenting is bad for ratings. That “deep talk” with Jace was abusive gaslighting and alienation of the person who raised him mainly.
Perhaps Amber is still on MTV because she didn’t have one CPS investigation after the other, nor had to follow parenting classes 5 times.
She’s also a lot nicer to the crew and production.
Amber already had one foot out of the door however. Calling Leah a dick and her rants might cost her her job.
Janelle doesn’t do it as much anymore but they both weaponize their mental illness and use it as an excuse for horrible behavior. I think both of these women would of been better off never appearing on “16 and Pregnant.” It’s like hearing about lottery winners who regret winning because it upends their lives in ways they never expected.
Absolutely! Neither can take accountability for their actions. MTV should never have monopolized on them! Watching abuse and drug use while filming? Hey as long as you get ratings, amirite?
At the very least, Leah is probably off from them having been on the show. Had the show not highlighted Amber’s downward spiral, she may have still been stuck in the midst of the vortex. Since it was, Gary and her were at least able to make it out of the worst of it and have financial resources they otherwise wouldn’t have. I think Amber would be the exact same just impacting Leah even more.
Honestly Jenelle would probably be much the same just likely in a trailer and kids most likely in foster care after her mom could t handle anymore.

I question why any of these 30 something WOMEN are still starring on Teen Mom. They could do a whole new round of teen moms or get a new idea up and running. But it’s just weird and way over cooked at this point.
I mean she’s wrong and she’s right. She got fired cos her Neanderthal husband shot her dog in the head and she stood by him, not quite “nothing”. But Amber did go for someone with a knife and she’s still employed!
Why MTV won’t pull the plug on this 30 somethings with nearly adult children who haven’t figured out how to pay their taxes dysfunction palooza is a mystery. As for little Miss Machete, the reason MTV maybe keeping her around is because she’s got a valid medical diagnosis and the risk assessment managers have decided it’s cheaper to keep her than face the backlash from mental health advocates and a pricey lawsuit for discrimination if she gets the stanky boot.
I suffer from mental illnesses. I would actually love to see amber gone. She makes us look like mean, horrible, dangerous people. I can get weird about things when I have mania. But it’s more like I think people are looking at me and lying. I’m not a danger or vicious person though. I take my mental health seriously. Meds, sleep, no alcohol or any kind of mind altering substance..Amber just doesn’t give a fuck and wants to stay sick so she can be the “victim.”
