Former Very Cavallari star Kristin Cavallari opened up this week about the challenges of co-parenting with her ex-husband, Jay Cutler, claiming the former NFL quarterback offers “zero f**king consistency.”
As fans will remember, Jay and Kristin– who share three children– were married from 2013 to April 2020, with their divorce being finalized in 2022.
On Monday’s episode of the Dumb Blonde podcast, Kristin opened up to host Bunnie XO about where she and Jay stand today, stating that their co-parenting relationship is a struggle, just as their marriage was.
“Things were just never good and we tried, we really did… We really did everything that we could,” Kristin said of their union, which she also called “toxic.”
During the podcast, Kristin went on to accuse Jay of being “a pathological liar.”
“There are things from my marriage that I will never know [the truth about], and I’ve just sort of had to let that go. I’m over it now, and I can – that’s why I can probably talk about it so freely,” she said.
Despite how bad the marriage was, Kristin admitted that she and Jay went on a few “dates” post-divorce to see if their relationship could be rekindled.
“I think — unless you’ve gone through this, especially with a toxic marriage, it’s like, it has this hold on you… It’s a f**king trauma bond,” Kristin said. “And until you can really break that, I would go back [to Jay] a couple times and be like, ‘I know it’s not right, but, like, why am I doing it?'”
Kristin said she finally cut things off with Jay for good and began to work on herself to heal from the marriage and from her unresolved issue with her own father.
“[After the] 18th millionth time I was like, ‘I can’t do this.’ Then I really did the work [on myself],” she said.
The ‘Laguna Beach’ star admitted that, as a child of divorce herself, she still struggles with the fact that her own children are growing up with parents who are no longer married. Kristin revealed that these feelings “will creep up once in a while,” most recently on Christmas Eve.
“I got really sad Christmas Eve, because I was like, it just sucks that we’re not together as a family,” she said. “I don’t want to be back with Jay at all, but it’s that family unit, you know? That bums me out sometimes.”
When asked if she believes she and Jay will ever get to a point where they can celebrate holidays with their children as a family, Kristin seemed doubtful, explaining that her and Jay’s co-parenting relationship is “so up and down.”
“ … Zero f**king consistency, which is really hard,” she said. “Yeah, it has not been easy, to say the least.”
Kristin emphasized her point by recalling an instance earlier this year when she and Jay sat together at one of their kid’s basketball games, calling the seemingly rare moment of civility between the two “the best thing that’s ever happened.”
“ … Oh my God, we can sit next to each other,” she joked, adding, “we haven’t sat together since, so I don’t f**king know.”
Kristin called her and Jay’s co-parenting journey “a bumpy road,” though she admitted there’s also been a lot of good that has come out of the two divorcing, not only for her and Jay, but for their three children as well.
“ … it’s going to make them stronger,” Kristin predicted, noting that she could “list a million things of why [divorce] is positive” in her and Jay’s case.
As The Ashley told you in November, Jay is currently engaged to Samantha Robertson– a mother-of-two who shares two daughters with her ex-husband, actor Trace Ayala.
Jay and Samantha debuted their relationship on social media in September 2023 and last month, the two attended an event together in New York City where Samantha was photographed wearing a diamond engagement ring.
Just a month before his engagement news was made public, Jay was arrested and charged with DUI and possession of a handgun following a collision in Franklin, Tennessee. Police reportedly responded to a call on October 17 regarding a truck that had allegedly rear-ended another car and then attempted to pay the other driver $2,000 to not contact police. Upon arriving at the scene, cops claimed to have found Jay staggering around, slurring his words and smelling of alcohol.
During a search of Jay’s truck, police discovered a rifle in the backseat, as well as a loaded Glock handgun in the center console. The former NFL quarterback was arrested for DUI, Possession of a Handgun While Under the Influence, Failure to Exercise Due Care and Violation of Implied Consent Law. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail and went on to be released that night after posting $5,000 bond. His court date is set for January 2025.
Shortly after Jay’s arrest, Kristin briefly addressed the incident on her Let’s Be Honest podcast, telling listeners she wishes Jay the best and hopes “he gets the help he needs.”
“But that is the only thing I will be saying about it publicly,” she added.

CTESPN with Cutler
The first person to create a MRI machine that can detect CTESPN in a live person will be Rich! As of now they must have the deceased brain to detect this deadly disease. I would say upwards of 80% of current/former NFL players have CTESPN
They are both narcissists.
That makes so much sense. truly.
