David Eason has surprisingly made good on his November vow to lawyer up to fight his ex Jenelle Evans in divorce court.
The Ashley can exclusively reveal that the former Teen Mom 2 soulmates are set to go head-to-head in a North Carolina courtroom next month to battle over custody of their daughter, Ensley, as well as child support, equitable distribution of their assets and more! As The Ashley told you a few months back, David asked the judge in the case to continue the hearing so that he had time to hire himself a lawyer to fight on his behalf and he has (shockingly) done it.
It is not known if Jenelle— who retained her TikToking lawyer, Brandon Pettijohn, early in the case— is aware that David has hired a lawyer.
According to court records obtained by The Ashley, it appears that David has actually hired Wilmington, North Carolina-based attorney named Louis Smith. (As The Ashley previously told you, David had been attempting to represent himself in court and it was not going well.)
While there are no online reviews (that The Ashley could find) for Louis, he appears to have been practicing law for decades.
It’s unknown where David got the cash to pay for an attorney, given that he told the court in May 2024 in an Affidavit of Indigency— which was been obtained by The Ashley– that he only had $106 total in all his bank accounts at the time and could not afford a defense attorney for his pending criminal case for allegedly strangling Jenelle’s son Jace in 2023. Since public defenders are not assigned for civil/family/divorce cases, David must have gotten his mitts on some cash.
According to court documents, David and Jenelle (and their attorneys) are set to battle over custody and child support of their daughter Ensley, whom David has not seen in nearly a year. They will also be fighting over how the couple’s assets (which includes their swampy abode on The Land in North Carolina) will be distributed in the divorce.
“Interim Distribution” is also set to be discussed, which essentially means that they will discuss one party (most likely David here) accessing the couple’s assets before the divorce is finalized. North Carolina State Law Under N.C.G.S. § 50-20(i1) states that “the court can make temporary distributions of marital assets, including the home, during the divorce proceedings.”
Early on in the case, Jenelle was awarded temporary use of the home on The Land; however, that could change.
The hearing in February is also scheduled to decide whether or not the judge will approve Jenelle’s motion to have the case sealed from public view.
The swampy former spouses will be spending plenty of time in court together, as they are also scheduled to meet up on January 28, in criminal court. As The Ashley has reported, David is facing criminal charges stemming from his attempted break-in on The Land in October. Those charges— which include Trespassing and violating the protective order that Jenelle currently has against David—require Jenelle to attend the hearing.

It is fascinating to me that the divorce and then the attempted theft of 4-wheelers are court cases moving more quickly than the child abuse case against David. Certainly says something about our judicial system.

He hasn’t seen his daughter in a year?! I am not fan of Jenelle but I absolutely loathe David, so I hope he gets fucked. And his GF wises up on what dead weight he is. I can’t believe a 22 yo would waste some years on this old got-nothing-going-for him loser, wouldn’t be surprised he pushes for another child he doesn’t see so he can keep a hold of that pocketbook wallet.
But the thing is that he tried to have phone visitation with Ensley and Jenelle wouldn’t let him talk to his daughter. He posted the screenshots of the texts with Jenelle before she slapped the gag order on him — and I think that’s why she did it. Every time David called to talk to Ensley, Jenelle would tell him that she needed her phone “for business” and couldn’t tie it up while he talked to her.
I despise David as much as everyone else, but Jenelle has played this same game with every one of her kids’ fathers. She thinks because she gave birth, she has the right to eliminate the other parent from the child’s life when the relationship with BD doesn’t work out.

Kenleigh didn’t end up selling the Challenger, so that’s not where the money came from. BUT, she does have quite a hefty inheritance from the deaths of her grandfather and father, which is probably how she was able to buy her mobile home, truck, cars and toys. No doubt she’s paying David’s legal fees because I’m sure he’s told her that once he’s free from Jenelle they’ll live happily ever after together. She’s young and gullible. We tried to warn her and she wouldn’t listen, so when she ends up broke like Jenelle, she has no one to blame but herself.
