Nicole Young is taking a break from filming the current season of Selling Sunset, but the realtor assures fans of the Netflix series that she has not been fired, Us Weekly reports.
“I had a call with production two days ago, during which they told me I have absolutely not been fired from the cast, but they chose to pause my filming schedule until next week in order to protect me from situations on set that had become very contentious,” Nicole told the outlet in a statement this week.
While Nicole insists that she hasn’t been fired from the series, she also hasn’t confirmed that she plans to return once her production “pause” has been lifted.
“I’m still debating whether or not I want to continue filming in this kind of environment, especially with so many infuriating double standards,” she added.
Although Nicole didn’t go into detail in her statement, it’s presumed that the alleged “contentious” on-set situation she was referring to has something to do with her longstanding feud with castmate Chrishell Stause.
As fans of ‘Selling Sunset’ know, Nicole and Chrishell have been at odds with one another since Nicole joined the series in Season 6. The pair’s feuding continued ahead of the Season 8 premiere after Chrishell called out Nicole on social media for being a “snake” and accused her of telling “disgusting lies” about Chrishell’s best friend and fellow cast member Emma Hernan. It was later revealed that Nicole had allegedly accused Emma of having an affair with a married man.
Nicole was also called out by Chelsea Lazkani at the time for spreading the rumor about Emma, which the cast learned about after receiving screeners for upcoming episodes ahead of the Season 8 premiere.
Although Nicole also received backlash from Chelsea, Chrishell was arguably the most vocal cast member to speak out about the alleged lie, even claiming in August that she “would rather be sued” than ever work with Nicole again.
Despite Chrishell’s comments, she revealed on TikTok in October that she had decided to return to the show, claiming that, while she has “very strong feelings” about Nicole, she’s “also a business woman.”
“ … I always will be able to change my mind if you add a zero [to my paycheck],” Chrishell said of her decision to return for Season 9. “So, listen, I hate [Nicole] but if you’re gonna pay me a ton of money to say it to her face, write the check, I guess.
“Is that bad?” Chrishell continued. “I’m a business woman, first and foremost.”
@pedestriantv She said what she said!!! 😤 @Chrishell.Stause #sellingsunset #chrishellstause
While both Chrishell and Nicole signed on to film Season 9, it was reported in November that the two had yet to film any scenes together for the upcoming season.
According to Us Weekly, Nicole hasn’t filmed any new content for Season 9 since filming the one-on-one with Jason Oppenheim, during which Jason suggested Nicole take a step back from the office amid the confrontation between herself, Chrishell and Emma.
Nicole insisted this week that while ‘Selling Sunset’ “has been a great opportunity” and “wild ride,” it’s not her “life or identity.”
“I have a big, beautiful life outside the show…and thankfully in the real world, my life and personality can’t be edited or misconstrued to portray me negatively to fit into a produced storyline,” she added.
