TLC’s New Special ‘Big Family, Big City’ Introduces Viewers to the De La Motte Family of 13: Watch the First Trailer

Let’s be honest, Jim Bob Duggar could NEVER pull off that hat.

Move over Duggar Family– a new super-sized family is coming to TLC, more than three years after the network cancelled Counting On.

This week, TLC released the first trailer for Big Family, Big City, a one-hour special starring Marc and Amber de la Motte and their 11 children, who are adjusting to city life and potentially adding to their already large family.

The press release for the upcoming special describes the de la Mottes as a “conservative family of 13 who are about to experience the ultimate culture shock,” while promising viewers “an unforgettable ride” when ‘Big Family, Big City’ premieres next month.

We don’t see any traces of tater-tot casserole in this photo, so things are already looking pretty promising.

“Recently relocating from the peaceful suburbs of San Diego to the vibrant streets to Harlem, New York, Marc and Amber have quickly discovered that raising 11 kids in the Big Apple is not for the faint of heart,” the show synopsis reads. “As they juggle their growing family, a new lifestyle, and the challenges of busking together on the streets, the de la Mottes are finding that the fast-paced city life is both exhilarating and overwhelming.

“With worldly influences at every corner and mounting pressure to make it in the city that never sleeps, they’ll have to adapt fast or risk losing the closeness they’ve worked so hard to build,” the synopsis continues.

In the trailer for the special, viewers get a first look at Marc and Amber and their 11 children, who range in age from 6 months to 22 years-old– at least for now, anyway.

“I would love to have one more,” Amber says in the trailer.

We don’t blame you, Moses.

While the de la Mottes admit that their home is “very noisy,” they encourage said commotion through their shared love of music, which they claim is the “heartbeat of our home.”

“It’s a huge part of our family,” Marc says in the trailer. “It gives the kids purpose, drive, structure.”

“And it keeps them out of trouble,” Amber adds.

All of the de la Mottes play string instruments and the “Musical Family of 13” has even amassed a large social media following of more than 200,000 over the years where fans can follow along on their many adventures, many of which involve performing music.

Amber and Marc admit in the trailer for ‘Big Family, Big City’ that leaving their house as a family of 13 “is chaos,” comparing the act to “herding cats.”

“But that normal life,” Marc says, to which Amber notes, “We don’t know any different.”

“Chaos rules,” Marc adds.

In a 2023 article about the de la Motte family by The Cut, it’s explained that the family moved to New York in the summer of 2022 in an Airstream. While the family seemingly planned to reside in their home on wheels after arriving in Albany, “the possibility of a TV-show deal” inspired Marc and Amber to find housing that would accommodate a camera crew, which is how the family ended up in their Harlem apartment.

Unfortunately for the de la Mottes, plans for their TV show later fell through, leaving them to figure out how to cover their nearly $10,000 monthly rent, while also caring for their larger-than-most family and paying for the kids’ music lessons– the latter of which was funded through street busking as of 2023.

‘Big Family, Big City’ premieres February 25 on TLC. Watch the trailer for the upcoming special below.

  1. Wonderful. Let’s watch another large group of children indoctrinated into a harmful fundamentalist religion. Are we going to watch child moms and child slavery on this show too? Who at TLC is so pro-fundie? Haven’t tuned into that channel since the Duggars got big and I won’t be tuning in now. Fuck TLC.

  2. Oh so another fundie family that dresses their girls like Laura Ingalls in 2025 and exploits their kids to feed the family they couldn’t afford otherwise. *Yawn*

  3. These large families always have some super creepy secret or some underlying issues.

Am I to understand that they play music on the street for money as a JOB? Like Dad doesn’t work? Fkn figures.

Lemme guess. They’re all homeschooled and super religious?
And they’re exploitative social media vloggers??

    SMH.

  4. I’m super tired of tlc platforming “conservatives”, fundies, and trumpers. It’s become more than obvious at this point they have an agenda. I’m just done and implore others to stop watching as well. They’re normalizing this crap.
