Janelle Brown is single, settling down in North Carolina and, for the first time ever, designing her own space. 

The Sister Wives star, who confirmed her split from husband Kody Brown in December 2022, shared a life update with fans this week on the blog for her new business venture, Taeda Farms, telling fans she’s in the process of building and designing her “forever home” in North Carolina, where she relocated last year from Flagstaff, Arizona. 

In the blog, Janelle reflected on how this is the first time in her life that she gets to choose the design and decor of her home on her own, without having to consider Kody’s wants or the family’s preferences.

As The Ashley previously told you back in September, Janelle, daughter Maddie and son-in-law Caleb Brush announced they were launching Taeda Farms, a flower farm in North Carolina. The trio are in the process of getting their business up and running, but currently have a website for their company where fans can purchase Taeda Farms merchandise and other goods.

This week, Janelle opened about “stepping into something completely my own,” before sharing an update on the “forever home” she’s currently building. 

“For the first time, I get to create a home that feels exactly like me,” Janelle wrote.

While Janelle admitted that she “had a lot of say” in how her previous homes were designed and decorated– some of which viewers got to see in Season 5 and 6 of ‘Sister Wives’– she noted that, “when you’re part of a large family, decisions are never just about what you want.”

“Everything had to go through some kind of committee decision, and larger family gatherings were always factored in,” Janelle explained. “There were other voices to consider, other needs to meet, and resources to share. Kody had his opinions, of course, and beyond that, everything had to fit within the broader dynamic of the family. Compromise was just part of the deal.” 

Janelle went on to compare her previous experiences to her current one, telling fans “it’s completely different,” as she gets to make all the decisions for her new home and no longer has to “justify” her choices to fit someone else’s vision. 

“I can build a space that reflects exactly what I want, how I live, and what makes me feel at home,” she wrote. “And let me tell you– that’s both exhilarating and a little overwhelming.”  

Janelle revealed that having “so much freedom” almost feels “odd,” as she continues to catch herself wanting to run her decisions by someone else. She even shared that “out of habit,” she called Maddie to get her input on a decision, only for Maddie to remind her mom that it’s her house and it’s only important that she likes it. 

While Janelle explained that this freedom also comes with the challenge of needing to figure out exactly what her personal style is after all these years, she knows at the end of the day, these decisions are hers and hers alone to make. 

“ … for the first time, I get to figure it out without worrying about anyone else’s opinion,” she wrote. “And I can’t wait to see this home take shape– brick by brick, choice by choice, completely mine.”
