‘Big Brother’ Winner Jackson Michie Reveals He’s “Blown Through” $500k Prize: “I Crashed & Burned” After Win

“Ya win some, ya lose some…and sometimes ‘some’ is $510,000…”

Jackson Michie walked away from Big Brother in 2019 with the title of Season 21 champ and a grand prize of more than $500,000; however, nearly six years and a series of “poor financial decisions” later, Jackson said he’s “blown through” his winnings.

During a recent appearance on ‘Big Brother’ host Julie Chen MoonvesGod101 series, Jackson revealed how he ended up in his current financial situation, telling Julie that he was at “a delicate place” in his life when he was cast on Season 21 and when he ended up winning the $510,000 prize, he “didn’t have mentorship or guidance or financial counsel” to help him navigate his next moves.

Jackson, on Season 21 of ‘Big Brother’…

“Now I’m in Los Angeles– catapulted into the world with the same problems that I had not ever healed from,” Jackson recalled.

Shortly before appearing on ‘Big Brother,’ Jackson had relocated to Los Angeles from Nashville and was actively looking for work. While searching and applying for different gigs, he came across the ‘Big Brother’ casting call and decided to give it a shot.

While Jackson admits he was struggling with “five years of drug addiction” at the time, he said he quit using Xanax and cocaine– cold turkey– in preparation for the show. Just months after Season 21 wrapped, however, Jackson– who was just 24 years old at the time– said he “spiraled downhill.”

“ … Having just won $510,000 and having a little bit of popularity in Los Angeles, it was a dangerous combination for me,” he said, adding that after a series of “poor financial decisions,” he was forced to leave Los Angeles and move back home with family.

“I have at this point blown through all of my money, net negative in my checking account,” Jackson said. “[I had] no car, no job, no plan, going back to the city and the place where I ran from with no idea what [lay] ahead.”

While Jackson– who was a polarizing cast member on Season 21, facing accusations of racism and bullying at the time– turned his life around after finding religion and has since married wife Caitlin Goodrich and become a father, he said he understands why some fans of the long-running franchise were upset to see him take home the win in 2019. Jackson admitted that the flak from fans hit especially hard because he ultimately did “crash and burn” as many of his critics predicted he would.

“Disappointed and discouraged didn’t even put words to how I felt,” he recalled. “Because I realized … I did what the people who didn’t like me on the show told me I would do.

“‘You’re young, you’re dumb, you’re gonna blow through it, you’re gonna do this and that, you’re gonna crash and burn,’ and I did,” he continued. “I crashed and burned and I hit rock bottom more times than I can count.”

  1. slightly OT, but in the embedded IG post abt the audition process ~ is that zack from ‘the valley’ (aka lego hair helmet) on the left?

    1. also ~ ‘michie’ is very obviously a sh*tty human being.
once a BB season ends, i typically forget nearly everything abt it ~ but i do recall how ick he was and also that he was a poor choice of winner.

  2. Because he evicted 2 blacks that makes him a racist, GTFOOH, it’s a game moron, you get rid of the strong players, players you know you can’t beat in the end. That is how you win BB.

    1. You clearly didn’t watch the show and the BBAD!!

He and Jackson were heard by production referring to a cast member using the “N” word.

“Jackson had a particularly contentious relationship with David. He was caught on live feeds saying about the photographer: “I f*cking hate that dude;” “I want to mule kick him in the teeth,” “I’m gonna find out what makes him tick and torture him;” I’m gonna own his soul;” “he is the cancer of the house;” and “You’re not on Bravo or BET.”

Many times he was also sexist and just a jerk of a guy towards women.

“Before Holly won this week’s HOH competition, the couple had a blow-up fight. Holly had voiced concerns about having sex in the house, and considering they are on a show all about watching contestants 24/7, that makes a lot of sense. Although production is generally respectful and points live feed cameras away from houseguests in the act, Holly told Michie she wanted to be more careful about where and when they had sex (there are some places in the house, like the HOH shower, that don’t get camera coverage).

In response, Michie decided it would be best if the two ended things. He claimed he didn’t want to be with someone who regretted him. He stormed off and when Holly brought a peace offering, he stubbornly insisted he didn’t want to talk about it. But when it was time for the HOH competition, the showmance seemed to be back on track because Michie was not afraid to boss Holly around from the sidelines.”

I personally hate when something rude is said or done to a POC and it’s assumed racism but this situation was very clearcut. Sounds like you were th type of viewer that watched the episodes that aired and not the BBAD because you don’t seem well informed on the topic.

      1. @ truthsassier, fair enough to call me out on that, that was lame as F on my part and for that I apologize. you are right, I didn’t know he said all those things about the other houseguest, now that I know I am glad he is broke as hell, I never did like him and I never thought he was good looking at all. Again, I am sorry to anyone I offended.

        1. Oh thank you for responding Anita! I know for the casual viewers or it even being so long since it aired can affect what one knows or remembers about the show.

Hope you have a great day today!

  3. Huh. Sending “oh no’s” and “anyways”..

Had to Google his winning moment. Long story short, the guy gets called out for eliminating the 2 black, the only Hispanic and an elderly contestant first out of the house on live television moments before they announce his as the winner.
He was sorely unhappy as he exited to a stream of confetti and hugs.
“Congrats! You’re a racist! Enjoy your check!”

I’m sure the circumstances were a subconscious reason for the money being blown. It wasn’t real or deserved. I realize BB is a game and we’ve had villains before, Dr Will, etc, but this hits differently.

    1. You can’t just “google the winning moment” and even have a clue what happened. I watched the season in real time (and a few times again since it aired). I also watched Big Brother After Dark which is all unedited footage. A casual viewer only gets to see the edited version of everyone. Jackson was a piece of shit on the show for the way he was sexist and racist.

        1. @myname ~ obviously comments are interpreted differently by different people, but FWIW i didn’t feel you were defending him AT ALL. 🤷🏼‍♀️

          1. Thanks, I wasn’t.
I had to very quickly research this guy and got led to a recap of his win. I have no intention of watching that entire season. I get the gist.
I don’t feel sorry for him, I think he’s made a lifetime of terrible choices, I don’t doubt he was an ass in the house, from the little bit I could read, I gathered that he severely lacks self awareness.

But thanks for reading for nuance. It’s sometimes hard to translate over text.

        2. I’m sorry. I thought you were saying that was all there was to it, that he evicted POC and got the label.
